You’ve had your design consultation and we’ve started the manufacturing process, but you may be wondering what happens next. Upon delivery, the only thing you need to do is show us where your new mezzanine floor will go.

Usually, the construction process is simple and takes a few days. But if you’re curious how to install a mezzanine floor and the specific timestamps, discover everything you need to know below.

How to Install a Mezzanine Floor:

Mezzanine floor installations are straightforward, but that doesn’t make the process the same every time. Our expert team have created a list of the installation steps below:

  1. Pre-Installation Checks and Site Assessment: Day 1
  • Assessing the condition of the site
  • Identifying the location of the structure
  • Prepping the site before installation
  1. Component Fabrication, Delivery and Offloading: Day 2-3
  • Delivering the components
  • Offloading and organising
  • Briefing the team and site
  1. Frame Construction: Day 4-6
  • Constructing the frame
  • Checking stability
  1. Purlin and Decking Installation: Day 7-8
  • Installing purlin (this is the beam that supports the mezzanine floor)
  • Installing decking panels following the frame
  • Checking stability
  1. Optional Fire Installations: Day 9-10
  • Install fire-rated cladding (if required)
  • Checking if secure
  1. Optional Lift Installation: Day 11-12
  • Installing lift or escalator (if required)
  • Installing electrics
  • Testing the installation
  • Applying weight restriction signs
  1. Staircase, Railing and Optional Accessibility Installations: Day 13-14
  • Installing staircases
  • Applying non-slip paint to stairs (if necessary)
  • Installing edge and handrails
  • Checking if secure
  • Applying accessibility signs
  1. Final Checks and Adjustments: Day 15
  • First quality check
  • Feedback from site
  • Making any amendments
  • Final quality check
  1. Cleanup and Handover: Day 16
  • Cleaning the site
  • Briefing the site with handover notes (maintenance, etc)

Please note, this is only a rough estimate. Some of these steps are optional and may be completed on the same day, making the installation time shorter. For example, you may not need an elevator, or the quality check and cleanup are both done on the final day.

How Long Does It Take to Install a Mezzanine Floor?

A standard mezzanine without optional features will take around a week to install. However, it could also take between a few days and several weeks to install.

It depends on the size of the mezzanine, location and whether operations will continue. For a faster turnaround, consider a turnkey project. You may also close down operations during the installation.

How Much Does Mezzanine Floor Installation Cost?

It shouldn’t cost any extra for mezzanine floor installation. The delivery and installation price should be covered in the design and manufacturing invoice.

The average domestic mezzanine floor costs £9,500 to build. Whereas, commercial mezzanines range between £4,850 and £15,100. The cost per square metre is typically £72 to £150.

The cost depends on the:

  • Design and manufacturing process
  • Location and accessibility
  • Quality of materials
  • Size of the mezzanine
  • Type of mezzanine
